The Catalyst Park Demonstration Garden began in 2009 through a partnership between Shelton Kiwanis, the WSU Mason County Master Gardeners, and the City of Shelton. The one-acre site was donated by Mary Ann Murray and B.J. Beatty with the goal of creating a shared community space, whether as a city park or a community garden.
What was once a brush-covered city lot has, over the past 16 years, been transformed into a thriving space featuring more than 12,000 square feet of demonstration gardens along with a large, active community garden.
Catalyst Garden in Shelton, Washington, isn’t just a place to grow vegetables—it’s a space where community takes root. Supported by WSU Master Gardeners of Mason County, this garden provides fresh produce to the Saints Pantry food bank, offers free workshops, and welcomes gardeners of all ages and experience levels. In this Mason Matters video, presented by Peninsula Credit Union, hear from the dedicated volunteers and Master Gardeners who cultivate the land, support new gardeners, and grow more than just food—they grow connection, knowledge, and generosity.
